There is a strange pressure that arrives with the first page of a new calendar. We are bombarded with messages telling us to reinvent ourselves, audit our habits, and hit the ground running at maximum velocity.
But honestly? Lately, my life hasn’t been about big, cinematic leaps. It’s been about the quiet maintenance of everyday peace.
Before we dive into the goals, the schedules, and the inevitable chaos of the months ahead, I wanted to pull back the curtain on what life has actually looked like around here lately—and share the one simple morning ritual that has become my absolute non-negotiable.
Life Lately: Embracing the “In-Between”
If I had to sum up the last few months in a single phrase, it would be intentional deceleration. After a chaotic holiday season, I made a conscious choice to let the winter weeks be exactly what nature intended them to be: a period of rest.
What I’m reading: Moving away from business non-fiction and diving back into fiction that actually lets my brain escape the screen.
What I’m letting go of: The guilt of an unproductive Sunday. Some days are meant for recharging, not crossing items off a to-do list.
Small wins: Actually sticking to a consistent wind-down routine at night, which has completely changed how I wake up in the morning.
Instead of fighting the slower pace of the season, I’m leaning into it. And the anchor of that slow pace has been my morning kitchen routine.
Protecting the Ritual
No matter how busy the upcoming weeks get, my goal is to keep this morning pocket of time sacred. No emails before the first sip. No social media scrolling while the water boils. Just a quiet kitchen, a hot mug, and a few minutes to breathe before the world demands my attention.
Resets don’t have to be massive lifestyle overhauls. Sometimes, a new year just requires a slightly better cup of coffee and the permission to slow down.
